The Agricultural Transformation Agency Farmers Hotline, 8028, was used to collect information on the situation of rust in 55 AFP woredas.Development agencies (DA’s) from respective woredas, Woreda and zone Plant protection experts and Plant Health Clinic practitioners were given training on the IVRS (Interactive Voice response System) and wheat rust identification. The result of the survey gives an indication of where rusts might be occurring and areas that might need follow up surveys. Results from surveys on 14th & 19th October are presented. A possible increase in reporting for stem rust in Tigray and also SNNPR. For stripe rust a general increase – Amhara and SNNPR. These need further monitoring.
